EVERYDAY FENG SHUI
"How To Get More From Your Front Door"

by Guru Dan Roppo
Warrior Wisdom Feng Shui

Although the various schools of Feng Shui often differ in theory and application, most would agree that the main entrance of one's home and the walkway leading to it are perhaps the most important areas to promote the flow of positive chi.  Many practitioners refer to the front door as the mouth of chi because a threshold with good Feng Shui constantly feeds your home with nourishing yang energy.  The following 9 tips (the most auspicious number in Feng Shui) will help ensure that your home draws in the maximum amount of positive chi, while deflecting the ill effects of the dreaded "shar chi" or poison arrows:

  1. Remove or relocate any trees or structures in the front yard that obstruct the view of the road from your front door.

  2. Negative chi moves in straight lines and turns on corners.  Any straight lines or protruding corners that point at your front door are considered poison arrows and must be deflected with round mirrors, wind chimes or a bagua.

  3. The immediate space on both the inside and outside of the front door should be well lit, warm, inviting and organized.

  4. For a powerful "wealth cure", create a symbolic mountain of gold immediately outside your front door.  Find 4-6 golf to baseball sized rocks and coat them with metallic gold spray paint.  Pile them up to symbolize a small mountain and watch your cash flow increase.

  5. A solid front door without windows is best as it symbolizes security.  If your door does have windows, consider placing a pair of guardian lions or foo dogs outside your front door for added protection.

  6. Use a compass to determine which direction your front door faces.  Paint the outside of the door in the color of the element that corresponds to that direction.  Red is the most auspicious color in Feng Shui and is a good choice for almost any direction.

  7. Front doors in need of repair do not attract positive chi!  make sure that all of your door's hardware and locks are in good working order.  Also be certain that your door does not "stick" or make any "squeaky sounds".

  8. A 3 legged lucky money frog placed just inside and facing your front door can be very effective in attracting wealth.

  9. Sunlight = positive chi, so open your front door and allow the heavenly chi to energize and illuminate your home through the screen door.  To multiply this effect, hang a faceted crystal between the main door and screen door to refract the sunlight and send rainbows of good chi into your home.
