FENG SHUI, Part III "Cookin' with Good Chi" The Kitchen Stove by Guru Dan

Most readers will probably be surprised that the third installment in our Three Life Pillars of Feng Shui Series has to do with the energetic quality of the kitchen stove. The Chinese believe that the stove focuses the energies of the cook, food and fire to create nourishment for physical health and the strength to earn money. The quality of the chi flow in the kitchen directly affects the way our bodies absorb and process the nutrients in food. Many feng shui masters would argue that the quality of the chi energy in your food and the stove where it is prepared, are more important than its intrinsic nutritional value. Of course, fresh and organic foods are best for you, however, we will leave dietary tips to qualified nutritional experts, and concentrate instead on improving the energetic quality around your kitchen stove.
Incorporating the following nine tips into your kitchen decor can vastly improve the feng shui energies in your home:
-
Hang a mirror behind your stove, enabling the cook to see the entrance to the kitchen. If this is impractical, place a mirror on a stand and angle it toward the doorway.
-
Hang a metal wind chime in the center of the kitchen to disperse chi evenly thoughout the room.
-
If your kitchen stove is visible from the threshold of your front door, hang a curtain or place a screen to block the view. If this is impractical, hang a wind chime or faceted crystal sphere half way between the two points.
-
Keep your stove spotlessly clean and in tip top shape. Be sure to repair faulty pilot lights.
-
If your stove has a clock, make sure that it works properly, as a malfunctioning clock is symbolic of 'time running out' or 'moving too quickly'.
-
Keep all other parts of your stove in good working order as well. Including lights, knobs, fixtures, hood, fan, broiler and oven.
-
Be sure to rotate the use of all four burners on your stove. Most people only cook on the front two and create an imbalance of energy.
-
An energy conflict occurs between cold and hot, yin and yang, when a stove and refrigerator are too close together. Place a mirror on the side of your refrigerator to symbolically separate them. Or, hang a faceted lead crystal between the two points.
-
Large kitchen knives should be kept in drawers rather than displayed in a butcher's block. Excessive visible cutlery symbolically 'severs' the connection between you and the positive energy produced by the stove.
