The 3 M's - Malas, Mantras & Mudras.
Part III, Mantras

by Guru Dan Roppo

“Words create.  What you say is what you get!  Most people get hung by their own tongue.  When you say something, you energetically put the wheels in motion that will manifest it into reality.  Speak positively and use words as a tool to make what you desire come to pass.”
-Kevin Trudeau, Natural Cures They Don’t Want You To Know About.

Of all the methods of working with subtle energy, I feel that mantra practice is perhaps the easiest to use, and most readily available.

I believe this to be true because the Sanskrit language is energy based, rather than association based.  Most of the languages in use today are association based.  Meaning that certain arrangements of sound are combined to form words, which in turn are associated with objects, thoughts and ideas.  The Sanskrit language, however, is comprised of sounds that are the vocal equivalent of certain vibrational energies.

While other energy modalities require the user to first become adept at focusing their intentions or achieving altered states of consciousness before incantations or affirmations become effective, Sanskrit Mantra allows a practitioner to invoke powerful energies from the very first recitation.

Not only is it possible to achieve dramatic results from the recitation of mantra without psychic abilities, but clairvoyance and other spiritual powers can be developed solely through mantra practice as well.  Once an individual has recited a particular mantra a great many times (usually in excess of 125,000 repetitions) he/she may attain the state called mantra siddhi, where they become one with the mantras vibrational energy and carry it with them into all situations.

While all these things are possible through the practice of Sanskrit Mantra, its true purpose is the reduction of karma.  A pleasant side effect of reducing karma, is the sudden and miraculous ability to accomplish and attract desirable things into your life that previously seemed difficult or even impossible.

Love, health and abundance are just a few of the life areas that can undergo a positive transformation as a result of mantra practice.  In fact, there are actually specific mantras used to eliminate the karmic obstacles that stand between you and these blessings.  In addition, there are also mantras for specific desires.  Like obtaining a certain job or new car, creativity or divine inspiration, overcoming addictions, and, of course, spiritual growth.

If I were asked what the single most important factor was in mantra practice, I would say the correct pronunciation of Sanskrit words.  This is why it is so important to learn mantra from a knowledgeable teacher.  Or, at least with the help of an audio recording.  Sanskrit mantra has, until very recently, not been widely accessible in the western world.  For thousands of years they have been passed, one at a time, orally, from teacher to student.
